Information from Scott Campbell, descendant of Frances Elizabeth adds; James Bridges was a Cherokee Indian Commissioner appointed during the Andrew Jackson presidency.
James Bridges died April 21, 1873. Mary McKim Bridges died November 4, 1877. Both were buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Athens, TN. Today no markers remain to indicate the exact location of their graves. In 1999 Carrol Kelly along with Myrtle and Jack Turner visited this cemetery. No marked graves for Bridges were found. This cemetery was established with two distinct cemeteries. In 1823 the state granted two acres to the Baptist Denomination which is part of the present cemetery on the Southwest Corner. The same year two acres were granted to the Presbyterian Denomination. The Presbyterian plot was Northeast of the Baptist plot. It is estimated there are more than 7000 unmarked graves in the current 15 acre cemetery.
