Alexandrienne (sometimes called "Alexandrine") was born ca Dec 12, 1815, in Metabetchouan, St Jean Co., Quebec. (Date estimated from age at baptism, aged 6 mo + several days.) She was a Metis- part Indian & part Scot.
Baptized 15 June 1816 Alexandrine aged 6 months and several days, fille naturelle de _____and of Adelaide, sauvagesse montagnais. Godfather was Pierre MacNICOLL and Marie MacNICOLL. (Pierre signed as Peter MacNICOLL.) Signed Le COURTOIS, Pretre."
(St Etienne de Malbaie Parish register ,1816, folio 7.
ANQQue Microfilm reel No.4M00-0172A)

Alexandrienne married 4 May 1847, Saint Etienne de LaMalbaie Church in LaMalbaie, Francois Maltais, as his second wife. After their marriage, Francois MALTAIS and Alexandrienne McKENSIE settled in Terres-Rompues. Alexandrienne was the natural daughter of James McKENZIE ( accord.to her marriage record ) and the daughter of Adelaide, a sauvagesse of the Montagnais. (in her baptismal record) She is acknowledged & left a legacy in her father's Will. (Later revoked)

Alexandrienne died 13 April 1887, in Chicoutimi-Nord. She
was buried in the graveyard alongside Ste Anne de Chicoutimi Church, N. Chicoutimi. Her name was on her husband's tombstone. The headstone was barely legible. (1997) By 1999, the top part containing her name had broken off. ( This year Sept 2005, someone had darkened the print on the monument so it was more legible.) There were also some yellow chrysanthemums at the base.
( I suspect they might have been put there by M. Rusell BOUCHARD of Chicoutimi, a descendant of Kate MALTAIS & Jimmy TREMBLAY, Francois MALTAIS & Alexandrienne Mc KENZIE.)
