Lloyd Sterling McKeehan had been a civilian employee of the U.S. on Wake Island. When World War II began and Wake Island fell to the hands of the Japanese in December of 1941, Lloyd hid out for almost a month without food. When he was captured, he was brutally punished and sent to a Japanese prison camp on Honshu Island where he later died. (Per article in the Sacramento Bee, October 1948
