Maude R. McKee was born on May 9, 1876 to on the family homestead in Athens Township, Jewell County, Kansas. Her parents were Luther Warren McKee and Catherine “Lydia” Gilmore. Her mother passed away about 1881 when Maude was but six years old. Her father went west looking for gold. The last record of him was from 1882 when he was in Colorado. Available documents indicate that she went to live with your cousin Hattie B. McKee Chuning and her family in Bigelow, Holt County, Missouri where she received her education.
Maude married Henry Borchers on May 28, 1901 in Bigelow, Missouri. She had just turned 25 at the time of her marriage and Henry was 10 years her senior at the age of 35. This union produced six children only five survived to adulthood. The family lived in Mound City, until about 1949 when she moved to St. Joseph, MO. Henry passed away in December of 1939.
For several years Maude and her four single children, Frank, Horace, Catherine and Georgia lived together in in St. Joseph. The children all worked and help to support their mother.
Her son Robert married Josephine Reece and moved to Indiana.
