MARTHA JANE (McKEE) BAKER, 95, of 518 E. Main St., Morrison, passed away Thursday (8 Mar 1956) at 6 p.m. at her home in Morrison. She had been ill for the past three and one-half weeks. The body was removed to the Reynolds Funeral Home where arrangements were completed. The body will be taken to the family home Saturday morning where friends may call. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the family home and at 2 p.m. in the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Robert A. Mohn officiating. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison.
Martha Jane McKee was born Jan. 21, 1861, one mile west of the Ustick Town Hall, daughter of William and Mary McKee. She was reared in the Ustick community and attended the Spring Valley School and the Northern Illinois College at Fulton. She taught in the Cottonwood and Crouch Schools. She was married to Ervin P. Baker on Jan. 11 1882, in Ustick Township. She lived most of her life in Ustick Township, except for a few years in the Union Grove comunity, Nebraska, and Wyoming.
She came to Morrison three years ago where she continued to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Cobb. She was an active member of the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church and worked in the women's societies of the church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Nora McCullagh, Rockford, and Mrs. Harvey C. (Sylvia) Cobb, Morrison; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren, and one half-brother, Glenn McKee, Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband who died on March 3, 1916, one son in infancy, her parents and one brother, Charles. -- Contributed by Melva L.
