A kind and caring lady whose life made the world a brighter place, she died at 1 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was a Baton Rouge resident and a Houston native, and was a retired editor with the LSU Office of Publications, where she was widely regarded as a talented writer. She was a former public relations specialist at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Institute in Tennessee. She was a graduate of the University of Houston and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Episcopal Church. Brief services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Greenoaks Funeral Home, conducted by Nick Kalivoda. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen McIlhenny Turk and Jerry Turk, Willis, Texas; two grandsons, David and Robert Turk; two cousins, Alfred Johnston, Dallas, and Maryanna Rhemann, Houston; and devoted friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elva Johnston, who were from Houston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the Friends of Honduras Foundation, 11017 N. Oak Hills Parkway, Baton Rouge, LA 70810, to the Milk for Kids program founded by the deceased to nourish ill-fed children in Central America.
