Ann Jane (O'Ferrall) McGurn, age 88, passed away in Fresno. She was a native of San Francisco.
As newlyweds in 1942, Jane and her husband, Thomas J. McGurn, came to Fresno, temporarily to manage the USO Club, during World War II. They never left and became active members of the community.
During the years she was a volunteer at the Shrine of St. Therese Parish, San Joaquin Memorial High School, St. Agnes Hospital and the Infant of Prague. She was the founding secretary of the Forum for Better Understanding.
In her business career she was associated with Rohr Aircraft during WWII and office manager at Daugherty Travel Service for more than 30 years.
She was an avid sports fan, Bridge player and observer of public affairs.
Her husband died in 1989.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Allen and her husband Terry, of Clovis; and her son, Thomas O. McGurn and his wife Carolyn, of Carlsbad. She adored her five grandchildren, Peter, Steven and Mark Allen and Carrie and Kathryn McGurn. The last two years of her life were blessed by her first greatgrandchild, Audrey Allen.
Friends are invited to visit at Boice Funeral Home, on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Jane's life will be celebrated at a Requiem Mass, at the Shrine of St. Therese, on Thursday, April 2, at 9:00 a.m.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Shrine of St. Therese Building Fund, 855 E. Floradora, Fresno, Ca., 93728, or the San Joaquin Memorial High School Scholarship Fund, 1406 N. Fresno St., Fresno, Ca., 93703.
