A Sad Death. Mr. Allen McGehee, Jr., Passed Away Yesterday Morning

~Mr. Allen Clinton McGehee, Jr., did yesterday morning at8:30 o'clock, at the home of his parents, Col. and Mrs. A.C. McGehee, at 1643 Second avenue, after a long illness. The news of his death spread over the city yesterday, and was sad intelligence to his many friends. Mr. McGehee had been suffering with asthma for a number of years. This developed, in the last few weeks, into bronchial trouble, which resulted in his death. He had been confined to his room nearly ten weeks. Toward the last, he gradually grew weaker, despite all that could be done for him by skilled physicians and loving hands. His end, yesterday morning, was calm and peaceful.
~Mr. McGehee was in his thirty-first year. He would have been thirty-one years of age in May. He was born and reared in Columbus, and was a resident of this community all his life. For a number of years he was engaged in the mercantile business in Columbus. For the past few years he has been engaged in farming north of the city. He married Miss Minnie Watkins, of Forsyth, Ga., who with two little children, survive him. In its sad loss, the bereaved family has the sympathy of his many friends. Besides his parents, Mr. McGehee is also survived by two sisters, Mr. W. J. Woodall [Mary Jane McGehee Woodall] and Miss Ethel McGehee.
~Mr. McGehee possessed many friends who will mourn sincerely his death. He was a generous hearted to a degree and was a dovoted husband and father. He was a member of St. Luke Methodist church.
~The funeral will occur at 10:20 o'clock today from the family residence on upper Second avenue. It will be conducted by Dr. Howard McGehee, assisted by Rev. Scruggs. The following gentlemen will be the pall-bearers: Messrs. S.B. Hatcher, B.T. Hatcher, W.P. Hurt, P.E.P Griffeth, E.D. Burts, Emory Jefferson, J.D. McPhail and Oscar McPhail.
~All the pall-bearers are cousins of the deceased.
