Mary Helen Cummings, 82, died Saturday evening, June 3, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 10, 1924, to Charles and Margaret (McCloskey) McGee.
Mary attended local schools and graduated from Sisters of Charity St. James School of Nursing in 1946. She worked as an registered nurse for various doctors in the Old Murray Clinic, was a school nurse, and worked in family planning with Dr. Thomas H. Strong and then with Dr. Terrence M. Scott.
On April 30, 1949, she married John M. Cummings at St. Mary's Church in Butte. John died May 25, 1997. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, John; sisters, Kathryn and Margaret; and son-in-law, Jim Duffy. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Daughters of the Isabella.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Duffy of Butte; sons and daughters-in-law, John, Jr. and Helen Cummings, Ed and Dorothy Cummings, Michael and Tami Cummings all of Butte; grandchildren, Christy and Chris Mathers, Michelle and Jay Quilici, John Mike Cummings, Katie Cummings, Maggie Cummings, Abby Cummings, Michelle and Bud Dinius, Kelli and Kyle Hollow, Amber and J.C. Frankovich, Mary Kay Cummings, Kevin Cummings, Amy Cummings, and Bryan Bartholomew; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Nicolle Mathers, Kylee Piercy, Madison and Grady Quilici, Lexie Dinius, Joselyn and Kadence Frankovich; sisters, Rita Melvin and Charlotte Shields of Butte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, Mary's remains have been cremated. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Mary's family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Interment of her ashes will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
