Clearfield - James Arthur McEntire, 85, of 351 Fern Drive died Sunday evening at the Mckay Hospital of a heart attack. He was born Oct 29, 1888 in Farr West, a son of William N. and Olive Ann Rawson McEntire. He was married to Sarah Orton Dec 14, 1910, in the Salt lake LDS Temple. She died Nov 2, 1966 in Ogden. He then married Vivian Berry Smith, June 16, 1967, in the Salt lake Temple. He was a life member of the National Association of Hoistein-Friessian Cattleman's Association. He had also been active in political and civic affairs in Davis County. He served as road supervisor in the Clearfield District for 10 years. He also served as surplus Commodity Agent in Davis County for six years and as federal farm loan appraiser. He worked as a supervisor in receiving and shipping at the Ogden Arsenal for four years, and for a number of years in railroad grading construction for the Utah Construction and the McEntire and Hammon Constriction Co. He had lived in Farr West, Layton, Sunset and 46 years in Clearfield. He had attended Weber County Schools. He attended the Weber Academy where he received a degree in music. He also attended Utah State University and had a degree in dairying and farm management. He was a scoutmaster and organized the first scout camp at Monte Cristo. He had been active in Scouting for 30 years. he was an active member of the Clearfield 7th Ward. He was a high priest and past president of the MIA. He was a ward and stake music conductor and had served on the High Council for 31 years. He had worked in the Salt lake and Ogden Temple for the past 23 years. He had served in the Western States Mission in 1946. He was a former member of the Clearfield Kiwanis Club and the Sunset Lion's Club.
He is survived by his widow of Clearfield; two sons, Ray O. McEntire, Layton; Vernon N. McEntire, Tempe, Ariz.; Two stepsons, Robert L. Smith, Rock Hill S.C. and G. Frank Smith, Coumbia, S.C. Other survivors, include five daughters. Mrs. Allen A. (Melba) Taylor, and Mrs. Russell F. (Larene) Nielsen, both of Clearfield; Mrs. Eldon (Marie) Sill and Mrs. Malcom B. (Mauna) Morgan. both of Layton; Mrs. Graham (Ruth) Burns, Seattle Wash; 43 grandchildren. and 26 great - grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Frank W. McEntire of Ogden and Horace McEntire, Pleasant View; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Greenwell, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Sadie Hawkins of Ogden. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Clearfield 7th Ward Chapel 231 E 300 N., With Bishop Francis Carl Carlling officiating. Interment will be in the Ogden City Center.
