Wife of William Edwards. Daughter of Robert McDowell and Nancy Ann Best
THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Thursday, April 20, 1922
MRS. ELIZABETH EDWARDS
Elizabeth McDowell Edwards was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., on March 4, 1847 and departed this life at her home in Clarinda, Iowa, on April 18, 1922, at the age of seventy-five years, one month and fourteen days.
She was brought west while a child by her parents, who made their home in Lucas county, Iowa. Here she grew to womanhood and on Sept. 20, 1865, she was married to Mr. William Edwards, a soldier of the Union army. They made their home in Lucas county.
Six children came to them, all of whom are yet living. They are Allen Edwards and Joseph Franklin Edwards, of Williamson, Elmer Grant Edwards, of Chariton, Robert Henry Edwards, of Russell, Mrs. Flora Belle Wright, also of Williamson, and Mrs. June Blair of Clarinda. Twenty grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also mourn her going. She has one brother, George McDowell, of Homeward, Kansas, who was unable to attend the funeral.
About sixteen years ago the advance of old age and physical weakness made it necessary for the mother and father to go to Page county, where the mother was in the care of her daughter, Mrs. Blair. A stroke of paralysis came upon her presently, and after several months of illness, the end came.
Mrs. Edwards was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, being an attendant of the Freedom church, near where her girlhood was spent. She was an affectionate mother, a very kind neighbor, a loyal friend and she will be greatly missed by her kindred and friends.
Funeral services were held this morning at the Oxford Methodist church, six miles northeast of Chariton, conducted by Rev. Frank Bean of the Chariton church. The body was laid to rest in the Oxford cemetery.
