MRS. JAMES C. BROWN

Mrs. James C. Brown died at her home a short distance north of Chariton on Sunday evening, March 15, 1936, at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 9 days. She had been in ill health for some time but was able to be about and her condition was not considered serious until last Thursday when she was taken ill with a complication of troubles and heart trouble developed which resulted in her death.

Funeral rites, conducted by Rev. Frederick Nichol, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was in the Oxford cemetery.

Irene Belle McDowell, daughter of James N. and Amanda McDowell, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on Sept. 6, 1871. When about four years of age she moved with her parents to Elmwood, Kans., where they lived for about twelve years, then returned to Lucas county where she spent the remainder of her life, with the exception of two years spent in Missouri.

She was united in marriage to James C. Brown, of Lucas county, on December 9, 1891. To them one son was born, Ralph Nelson Brown, now of Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved from the farm where they lived for many years to the present family home near Chariton in October, 1912.

Mrs. Brown was well known in this vicinity and very highly regarded for her many fine traits of character. She had taken an active part in the work of the Farm Bureau ladies and also in the social life of the community, and for many years took an active part in the Presbyterian Ladies' Aid Society, and had won for herself a large circle of friends.

She is survived by her husband, of this place, one son, Ralph Brown and wife, and a granddaughter, Adeline Brown, all of Des Moines, and one brother, Earnest E. McDowell of Chariton.
