KNOXVILLE - B. Joyce McDowell, 83, 800 N. Market St., died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2007) at the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born May 24, 1924, in Knoxville, the daughter of Earl and Starr Mulliner West. She married Lavern E. McDowell on June 12, 1942, in Knoxville. He preceded her in death March 24, 2002.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen (Roger) Chase, Knoxville, and Lori (Todd) Rodewald, Peoria; two sons, Daniel McDowell, Peoria, and Donovan (Susan) McDowell, Peoria; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert West, Knoxville; and one sister, Lois Hilligoss, Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Starr Gerbracht; and one sister, Shirley White.
She was reared and educated in the Knoxville and Galesburg area.
She was a homemaker. She owned and operated a day care center in her home while she lived in Peoria.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville and a member of the Rebecca Club and the Lutheran Church Women.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville, with the Rev. Michel D. Clark officiating. Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
