Delphine M. (McDougall) Abbott, age 76, of Warrens, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin, after a brief struggle with cancer.
She was born January 21, 1934, to William and Evangeline (Jacobus) McDougall in Neva, Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Patrick Abbott October 26, 1956 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Antigo, Wisconsin.
Del started her career in Antigo, where she worked at the shoe factory, the magazine print shop and Amron Ordnance Facility. After moving to Midway Island, she worked as a clerk at the Navy Exchange and was a CCD instructor at her church. She and Larry moved to Warrens in 1973. She worked at the Cash Store, Tomah Memorial Hospital, served as the Warrens Village Clerk and worked at the Antique Mall of Tomah up until just three weeks ago.
She was a faithful member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Warrens. Del stayed active in various capacities; she was a member of the Navy Wives Club and served on the Warrens Cranberry Festival board. Her spare time was spent sewing, cooking, knitting, gardening, mowing and most of all spoiling her grandchildren.
She is survived and dearly missed by her husband, Larry Abbott of Warrens; sons, Michael Patrick (Susan) Abbott of New Richland, Minnesota, Daniel (Candi) Beltz of Warrens; and daughter, Elizabeth Ann Abbott (fiance Mike Muth) of Black River Falls, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jessica Rae Abbott, Tanner James Abbott and Michael Patrick Abbott II, Otto Daniel Beltz, Dusty Beltz, Dominique (Thomas) Davidson and Dakota Beltz, Ryan-Shane Patrick Brummet, Bridget LeAnn Brummet and Christopher Lee Brummet; a brother, Terry (Barb) McDougall of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; three great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary McDougall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Logan G. Gray; and a brother, Merle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2010, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomah, Wisconsin. The Very Rev. Steven J. Kachel will officiate. Burial will follow in the Warren Mills Cemetery, Warrens. Family and friends are invited for visitation Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. at Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
