Bernard Francis McDonald was the son of Thomas Henry and Sarah Magdalene (Donnelly) McDonald. He was the eldest child of nine children.

Bernard married Marie L. Dacey at St. Patric Church, Valley Falls, Rhode Island - June 14, 1937. He was a retired "Shipping Foreman." His brother Gregory B. McDonald was the informant.
