She was the youngest child of Dr. Humphrey Peake and his wife, Anne Linton Lane, was born in Alexandria, Virginia on June 14, 1822. There was a large family of brothers and sisters, and when the time came to baptize the baby her mother wanted to name her Olivia after the lady in the "Vicar of Wakefield", but her father, who was a gentleman having the courage of his convictions, announced that the last addition to the family should be called "Cornelia" after an old sweetheart of his, Miss Cornelia Lee. Cornelia was the second wife of Colonel Angus William McDonald of the 7th Virginia Cavalry. She kept a diary during the Civil War, which was published in 1875, second edition in 1934. The title: A Diary with Reminiscences of the war and Refugee Life in the Shenandoah Valley 1860-1865. She was buried beside her beloved husband in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond Virginia. I'm reading your diary right now and I've shed more than a few tears at the struggles you endured with such grace! Thank you for inspiring me. God bless.
