Dorothy Marie (McDaniel) Amos, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Villaspring Health Care and Rehabilitation in Erlanger, Kentucky. She was 89.
Mrs. Amos was born in Clarksburg, on September 13, 1918, to the late Edward Roy and Anna Lee (Albin) McDaniel.
On July 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Linvell Horace Amos, who preceded her in death on April 28, 1992. She and the former A.P. Green employee were married for more than 51 years.
Mrs. Amos and her husband were longtime members of First Baptist Church, where, as volunteers, they gently cared for several generations of worshippers, children during Sunday School, training union, and the church's morning and evening services.
During the 1960s through the 1980s, she worked in and managed retail departments for Montgomery Ward and WalMart. She was hired as one of the latter's first employees, as the company first set up shop in Mexico nearly four decades ago.
Molded by a challenging childhood that found her working in farm fields alongside grown men beginning at the age of six, then surviving the Great Depression, and becoming a war-era bride, Mrs. Amos was tenacious in her spirit and in her actions. She took nothing for granted and was forever thankful for life's simple blessings, as well as the amazing opportunities that always seemed to present themselves to those who were willing to work just a little harder than the next person. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and caring for her always abundant flowers.
Mrs. Amos, a proud and determined Christian, was sustained by her faith in God. With her Bible always within reach, she often would calmly assess a situation, dispense the sage wisdom of her years and end her on-target missives to friends and family with the admonition, "Just trust in the Good Lord."
Mrs. Amos also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lou Scarborough, who passed away on January 1, 2006, as well as sisters Gertrude Goldammer and Lucille Strobel, and a brother, Paul McDaniel.
Compassionate, generous, and always forthright, Mrs. Amos will be lovingly remembered by those who survive her, including daughter of Kingwood, Texas, son of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, and a sister of Springfield. Mrs. Amos was a kind, nurturing and devoted grandmother of seven
