Little Nicholas was the sixth child of seven children born to Tara Joe Samperi and Bernard J. McDaid, Jr.

James is survived by his parents, siblings, Matthew Jonathan, Mark Christopher, Michael Nathaniel, Gabriel Darnell and Elizabeth Anne, and maternal grandparents Maurice Flora and Joseph Charles Samperi.

His infant brother James Alexander was born May 30, 1986, and passed June 3, 1986.
