"...ANDREW FRANKLIN McCreary.....was born in Fairview township, one mile north of what is known as the "Old Kentucky Home," and lived there until after his marriage [on 14 Apr 1850 in Millcreek Twp., Erie Co., PA to Letitia Isabella Barr, b. 9 Apr 1828 in Millcreek Twp., d. 4 Nov 1900 in Fairview Twp., Erie Co., PA]. His grandfather, William B. McCreary, was also a native of Erie county, and a soldier in the war of 1812. His great-grandfather came from New England and was of Scotch ancestry. His maternal grandfather, John L. Barr, was a native of Erie county, and his maternal great-grandfather who was a Scotch-Irishman, died in Washington, D.C. at the advanced age of 103 years. It will thus be seen that the McCreary and Barr families were among the very first of the sturdy pioneers who undertook the gigantic task of converting this portion of the Lake Erie wilderness into one of the most beautiful agricultural spots on the globe. Andrew F. McCreary followed farming until middle life, when he became a member of the firm of Caughey, McCreary & Moorehead, book sellers and stationers, Erie, Pa., and is now 'living in retirement with his wife in Erie. The family consisted of five children, three of whom are living: Emma, Mrs. Richard Pratt[Emma Mae b. 1855 in Fairview Twp., Erie Co., PA--twin of William, who died at the age of 5]; Cassius [Cassius Marcellus b. 08 Apr 1859 in Fairview Twp., d. 14 Mar 1906 in the city of Erie]; and John Milton [b. about 1863 in Fairview Twp., d. in 1927 in Ravenna, Portage Co., OH], the last storekeeper of the H.F. Watson Paper Company.'"
