Akwesi McCray, affectionately known as "Kesi" and "Aki" to his family, and "Kwesi" to his friends, was born on June 16, 1976, in Philadelphia, PA. On Saturday, December 28, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina, he answered God's call to come home.

Akwesi was employed by Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina at the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, South Carolina. He was a lover of jazz and oldies music, and sang in his church choir and locally. As a member of his high school marching band, he played the drums, cymbals and timpani. Akwesi was fascinated by anything dealing with mathematics and maps.

Akwesi's brother, Wadi, preceded him in death nine days earlier, following a tragic automobile accident on December 17, 2002.
