Adelaide M. McCoy AGE: 87 • West Grove Adelaide Miller McCoy, 87, formerly of Stenning Woods, Hockessin and Chatham, Brandywine Hundred, passed on Christmas Eve at Jenners Pond, West Grove, PA. Adelaide was born in Philadelphia to Donald and Helen Miller and raised in Wilmington where she lived most of her life. While at P.S. duPont High School, she married Edwin Frazier McCoy and they shared almost 50 years of marriage before his death in 1995. In her early adult life, Adelaide worked for the DuPont Company briefly before devoting her life to raising her family. Mr. and Mrs. McCoy were devoted to their 2 sons who were both active in the Brandywine High School band. Ed and Adelaide were avid band boosters, especially supporting the jazz ensembles at Brandywine. In addition to her family, Adelaide enjoyed life-long friends around the Wilmington area and participated in several bridge clubs as well as a garden club. Throughout her life, she had a love of dogs.Ed and Adelaide were thrilled to welcome into their family their daughters-in-law and their grandchildren. She is survived by their son, D. Scott McCoy (Kathy); 5 grandchildren: Mark D. McCoy (K. Ann Horsburgh), Matthew D. McCoy (Allison Ralston), Erin Lockard (Ryan), Kevin McCoy (Sarah) and Kristin McCoy; and 5 great-granddaughters. Adelaide was preceded in death in 1995 by her husband, Edwin F. McCoy, in 2009 by her daughter-in-law, Margaret "Peg" Healy McCoy, in 2012 by her son, W. Bruce McCoy, and by her brother, Donald Miller.
