McCoy

Lusby G. McCoy Jr., known by his family and friends as Dick, age 80, of Talleyville, DE passed away December 28, 2012. Born and raised in Talleyville, to L. Grant and Catherine Ayres McCoy, he attended Alexis I. DuPont H.S. and Temple University.

While at A.I DuPont he met the love of his life, Betty Conner McCoy. After serving in the Korean War, they would marry. Dick was a devoted family man and especially loved attending all his grandchildren's activities. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Dick is survived by 4 children: Nancy Jones, R. Michael McCoy (Linda), Kay Harmon (Ron), and Lisa McGee (Mark). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Grant and Julie Jones, Shawn and Nicole McCoy, Tyler Harmon, Shannon and Justin McGee. Dick also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and George Owens. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Bruce C. Jones.

Dick supported his family by starting his own custom home building business, (L.G. McCoy Jr. Builder). In over 50 years of business, there was only one way to do things, "Dick's way". Dick was always involved with every aspect of a project, and no matter how small the detail, the standard was still the same. To ensure that everything was done "Dick's Way", Jimmy Hague was there from day one as good friend and employee.

For 65 years Dick was a proud member of the Talleyville Fire Co. During that time, he served as an active firefighter and administrator. He served in many roles, including Chief and Chairman of the Board. Additionally, Dick was awarded the honor of Chief Emeritus. He was not only active at the local level, but also dedicated time to the service at the county, state and national level. Through his roles at the New Castle County Volunteer Firefighters Assoc., and Delaware Volunteer Fire Fighters Assoc. he chaired and co-chaired a variety of committees.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the McCRERY & HARRA Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202, S. of Silverside Rd.), Wilmington, DE 19803 from 9-11 am, followed by a service at 11 am. Overflow parking will be available at the YMCA. Burial will take place at 1 pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. A reception will immediately follow interment at the Talleyville Memorial Hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dick's name to Talleyville Fire Co at 3919 Concord Pike, P.O. Box 7025, Talleyville, DE 19803.
