Donald McCoy

November 24, 1928 - August 9, 2008

Donald McCoy was born on November 24, 1928 in the Tracy Community near Rockdale. He was one of eight children born to the union of Claude Hampton McCoy and Eunice Jewel Baird McCoy. Donald attended school in Sharp. During the Korean Conflict, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and attained the rank of Platoon Sergeant and worked in the motor pool.

After leaving the service, Donald began trucking and doing cross country trips to deliver fresh produce from the Rio Grande Valley to Canada and the northern United States. He would then seek to find loads back to this area. He often took his children along and knew all the best routes and truck stops.

Donald died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale after a lengthy illness. He had reached the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Mason McCoy; brother, Doyle McCoy,and sisters, Dorothy Lawrence and Doris Springer.

Survivors include: Sons, Donnie McCoy of Fairfield, Ron McCoy and wife Misty of Rockdale, John McCoy and wife Yvette of Rockdale; daughter, Catherine Praesel and husband Craig of Rockdale; grandchildren, Chasity McCoy, Stephen McCoy, Adam McCoy, Evan McCoy, Emily McCoy, Branson McCoy, Carson McCoy, Chance Praesel, Caitlin Praesel and Caleb Praesel.

His is also survived by brothers, Floyd McCoy of Rockdale, Charles McCoy and wife Shirley of Thorndale; sisters, Gloria Ebarb and husband Ellis of Thorndale and Kaye Blunt of Austin.

Public visitation was held on Tuesday from 5 - 8 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 1at 10 a.m. at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Those desiring to make memorials in lieu of flowers please do so to the Rockdale Full Gospel Church or Mt Zion Baptist Church.
