Cause of death: Scarlet Fever
"Death of John Rockefeller McCormack"
John Rockefeller McCormack, 3 years, 10 months and 9 days old, the elder son of Harold F. and Edith Rockefeller McCormack, died a little before noon, yesterday, at the home of John D. Rockefeller, Pocantico Hills. Scarlet fever was the cause of death. Mr. and Mrs. McCormack took their two children to Pocantico Hills about two weeks ago, when they were in the first stages of the disease. The parents have not the slightest idea how the children contracted the fever.
To keep the disease from the other members of the family, Mr. Rockefeller had an inclosed staircase built against a side of the house leading from the sick chamber to the glass inclosed piazza below, so that the trained nurses could travel back and forth without going through the house. Yesterday came the crisis and the elder child took a turn for the worse, and death ensued.
George Fowler McCormack, brother of the dead boy, has passed the critical point, and it is believed he will recover.
The blow is a hard one for the mother and father, but it is doubtful if any one feels worse than Mr. Rockefeller. He boy was named after him, and was his favorite grandchild.
