DIED FOLLOWING POISON DOSE
-FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. BESSIE BORING HELD SATURDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Boring, who died last Thursday afternoon at her home here, were conducted Saturday afternoon by the Rev. J.L. Shoemaker of Shelbina at the Locust Hill Methodist Church, with which she had united at an early age. Burial was in the Locust Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Boring, 55 years old, an employee at Wayne's Cafe, is believed to have taken some kind of poison last Thursday morning, the dose probably having been taken soon after her daughter, Miss Lucy Mae Boring, went to work at the glove factory. When Mrs. Boring did not appear as usual at the restaurant, investigation led to finding her in her home in an apartment over the Gamble Store in an unconscious state, and, although treated, her recovery was deemed doubtful from the first, and death came shortly after noon.
Besides the daughter mentioned, there survive a step-daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Elliott and her two children of Akron, Colorado; Mrs. Boring's mother, Mrs. Lucy McConnell of Des Moines, Iowa; and two brothers, William McConnell of Milan, Illinois, and Albert McConnell of Alexis, Illinois. She also leaves a nephew, the son of a sister who preceded Mrs. Boring in death, Carl Parker of Prairie City, Illinois, who made his home with Mrs. Boring for a number of years and who, with his father, William Parker of near Prairie City, and all other relatives named from away, and a niece of Mrs. Boring, Mrs. Charles Goodrich of Des Moines, Iowa, attended the funeral.
A daughter of George and Lucy (Orchard) McConnell, Mrs. Boring was born Mar. 4, 1889 near Locust Hill, in which vicinity she grew up and lived practically all her life. She was married Apr. 3, 1909 to William H. Boring, who died Apr. 9, 1943. They were the parents of two children, one dying in infancy, and Miss Lucy Mae, who with her mother moved to Edina in May, 1943, following the death of Mr. Boring.
