MRS. LOLA M. LOWER DIES IN DAUGHTER'S HOME IN OHIO
Mrs. Lola M. Lower, 70, a prominent social worker of Wabash, died Thursday morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs. S.M. Simmons, Berea, O.
Mrs. Lower who left Wabash about three and half years ago when she retired from active work, had been in ill health for about a year and had been critically ill since Dec. 1. Her daughter, Mrs. Simmons, is in the hospital in Berea, having undergone major surgery Thursday morning. Mrs. Ross Lower, Fort Wayne, a daughter-in-law, had been assisting in the care of the decedent for several weeks.
Mrs. Lower was born in Goshen Oct. 23, 1877 and came to Wabash when a child. She went through the city schools and was graduated from Wabash High School. For seven years after that she taught the primary grades in the Wabash schools and in a country school called the Prairie school. She served as attendance officer for the Wabash city schools for 18 years and as an investigator for the Noble township trustee's office during the thirties. She also served as an investigator for the governor's commission for unemployment.
Mrs. Lower was secretary of the Wabash County unit of the Red Cross for about 25 years and at one time several years ago was a member of the board of Associated Charities. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Altrusa Club for many years. She was highly regarded by the residents of Wabash for her untiring services in each of her capacities.
Mrs. Lower was the daughter of William and Marguerite McClure and was married to Edward A. Lower, who preceded her in death March 24, 1920. Survivors include the daughter, two sons, Ross M. Lower, Fort Wayne, and Sherman, Alexandria; two brothers, H.B. McClure, Peoria, Ill., and Brice McClure, Upper Sandusky, O., and six grandchildren.
The body is being brought to the Hoover-Miner Funeral home and is expected to arrive sometime Friday. Tentative arrangements have been made for services at the funeral home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dr. Ware W. Wimberly, pastor of the Presbyterian church to which Mrs. Lower belonged, will officiate. #Burial will be in Falls cemetery.
