Mrs. Virginia Johnston
Was Last of Prominent
Family in County

Lewisburg, Sept. 25.--Mrs.
Virginia McClung Johnston, 85, last
surviving member of a prominent
Greenbriar county family, died at
her home here Friday night after
an illness of three months.
She was the widow of John Davis
Johnston. It was at his farm at
Blue Sulphur Springs that Mr.
Johnston's father, Andrew D. John-
ston, raised "Traveler", Gen. Robert
E. Lee's famous horse. J. W. John-
ston, a brother of John Johnston,
was riding Traveler at Camp Sewell
when Gen. Lee saw the horse and
purchased him through Maj. Joseph
Mrs.Johnston was the daughter
of Madison and Margaret Hanna
McClung. Surviving nephews and
nieces include James W. McClung
of Lewisburg; Edward W. McClung,
Clarence McClung and Miss Caro-
line McClung, all of Williamsburg;
Mrs. L. L. Stuart, Mrs. Forest Mc-
Laughtin and Mrs. Ernest Livesay,
all of Lewisburg.
Funeral services will be at
the home Sunday afternoon at 3
o'clock conducted by the Rev. Lloyd
Courtney, pastor of the Old Stone
church. Burial will be in Calvary
church cemetery at Richlands.
