McCLESKEY, Kenneth Darrell "Coach", born August 29, 1933, in Grand Saline, Texas to Lucille and Darrell McCleskey. He passed away on January 21, 2007, after a valiant fight with injury and illness. Ken was an outstanding high school and college athlete and later a well-known teacher and coach. After serving his country in the United States Navy, Ken returned to college, graduating from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, with a Bachelors Degree in 1961, and a Masters degree in 1962. He spent two years teaching at Evans Junior High School in Alamosa before moving to Fresno to teach and coach at Washington Union High School. In 1967, he accepted a teaching position at Piute School in Lancaster where he had a long and distinguished career before retiring in 1996. Coaching was a real joy in Ken's life and along with his many coaching duties at Piute, he coached football and wrestling at Antelope Valley High School. Additionally, Ken spent many summers working as a pipefitter in his hometown of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Ken's parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Carol and step-son Steven Winters, Tom Harris and Kim of Reno, Don Anderson and Carolyn of Long View, Texas. His many friends and colleagues in education will miss him greatly. Over the years, "Coach" was a positive influence on thousands of students — the best possible tribute for an educator. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2007. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2007, both at Halley Olsen Murphy Memorial Chapel, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Lancaster Education Foundation, Lancaster School District.
