Agnes M. (McCaw) Irwin, 83, of Apollo (Washington Township), died peacefully in her home on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Butler, a daughter of the late Christopher and Christine (Gedds) McCaw. She moved to Pittsburgh in the early years of her life. She later moved to the New Kensington area, attended and graduated from Ken High. Mrs. Irwin was a nurse, beloved by her employers and many patients. She worked for the late Dr. Saul Fleegler of New Kensington for 25 years, and for Dr. Danai, Vandergrift, for 12 years. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Washington Township, and a past member of the Washington Township Women's Club. She was also the Past Worthy Matron of the Vandergrift Order of the Eastern Star. Agnes loved gardening, flowers, bird watching, and working as a nurse. Survivors include her beloved husband of 63 years, Joseph W. Irwin, whom she married May 14, 1941; two sons, William and wife, Bernadette, of Timonium, Md., and James and wife, Beth, of Indiana, Pa.; four grandchildren, Sarajane (Bill) Shane, Kate Irwin, Brian Irwin and his fiancee, Kellie, and Stephanie Irwin; and two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Jack Shane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John McCaw; and sister, Elizabeth Burger. Relatives and friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont. Agnes' funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The service will be conducted by the Rev. David Watkins of Medi Home Hospice, Irwin. Entombment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
