John McCarty, of West Madison, who has twice been confined because of insanity, became violent yesterday and Chief Schuler and Policeman Hollis were summoned. The excited man attempted to resist the officers and made a break for his house to get an axe. After a sharp but brief tussle the officers took him to the county jail for safe keeping. The trouble created much excitement in the neighborhood and quite a crowd collected. McCarty was discharged some years ago from the Central asylum at Indianapolis and it is probable steps will now be taken to have him re-committed to Cragmont.

From Death Certificate:
Place of death: Madison State Hospital for the Insane
Length of stay at hospital: 30 years
Single
Cause of death: Suicide by hanging by the neck with a sheet tied to a window guard screen.
