Chillicothe Gazette MRS. GLADYS COX Mrs. Gladys C. Cox, 65, of 698 Adams Ave., died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday in Chillicothe Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Irwin Lane officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fawcett-Oliver and Glass Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Wednesday and at the church after noon Thursday. Memorial tributes may be made to the Ross County Board of Mental Retardation. A native Ross Countian, she was born on Dec. 4, 1906 to Millard and Cushion Thacker McCartney. On Dec. 14, 1929 she was married to Ernest W. Cox Sr. who died on April 4, 1954. Surviving are two daughter, Mrs. Herman (Ada) Speakman, Circleville, and Mrs. Donald (Sondra) Smith, Adelphi, seven sons, Ernest W. Jr., Columbus, Granville M., Jerry L. and Lawrence E. all of Chillicothe, Roger E., Route 4, Jack E., Route 3, Steven C. with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam, 29 grandchildren, five sisters, Mrs. Helen Longacre, Mrs. Walter (Pauline) Winks, Mrs. Ira (Lucille) Graham and Mrs. Donald (Evelyn) Lohr, all of Columbus, and Mrs. Amos (Bertha) Sweet, Waverly, and two brothers, Charles and Lawrence McCartney, Columbus. She was predeceased by four grandchildren, a brother, a sister, a son and a daughter.
