Virginia Brennan, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in her home on Thursday, December 3, 2009. She resided at 4211 Pacific Avenue in Long Beach, California at the time of her death.
She was born January 2, 1923, the daughter of George and Helen McCarthy in Chicago, IL.
It was there she met the love of her life, Dr. James Brennan, and they began a life that included four children, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and an active life in the Long Beach community.
She was an active member of St. Barnabas Parish, Junior League of Long Beach, and Virginia Country Club. She was president of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women from 1969 to 1971.
She was a founding member of the Right to Life League, where she defended the rights of our most helpless, the unborn, and was inducted as a Dame of Malta in 1986. Virginia and Jim were dedicated to the mission of St. Mary Medical Center and she had continued this good work with the Sisters.
Virginia is survived by her children, Helen Baumann, Jim (Judith) Brennan, Mary (John) Cliby, Tom (Shanlee) Brennan; fifteen loving grandchildren; and a growing number of great-grandchildren. This amazing, loving woman will be truly missed by her family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 6:00-9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary at 7:30 p.m., at All Souls Mortuary, 4400 Cherry Avenue, Long Beach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. in St. Barnabas Church, 3955 Orange Avenue, Long Beach.
