Martha Hornblower McCarthy of Palm City, FL passed away on Sunday, May 30th at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, FL. She was 74 years old.

Mrs. McCarthy was the devoted wife of the naval architect, Daniel Justin White McCarthy, who passed away on October 30, 2003 and loving mother to her three children.

The McCarthy's lived quietly in their house overlooking the St. Lucie River and gave generously to the community, friends and families during their 36 years of marriage.

Martha McCarthy was an avid tennis player, who won many amateur awards.

Martha was the daughter of Ralph and Eleanor Greenwood Hornblower of Boston and Plymouth, MA and the granddaughter of Henry Hornblower, cofounder of the investment firm Hornblower & Weeks of Boston, MA.

Her eldest brother, Henry Hornblower II, was the founder of Plimoth Plantation, a re-creation in Plymouth, MA of the original Pilgrim settlement, a not-for-profit living history museum of the early 17th century.

Martha Hornblower attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, MA and Bennington College in Vermont. Martha made her debut during the 1948-1949 season.

A memorial service conducted by the Reverend Thomas Tracy Pittenger II will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart, FL on Monday, June 7th at 11:00 am.
