JANESVILLE - Agnes A. (Leach) McCarthy, age 73, a former longtime Janesville resident, died Saturday morning, Nov. 30, 2002, at her daughter's home in Brookfield, with whom she has resided the past several years. She was born July 7, 1929, in Elkhorn, the youngest child of the late Harvey and Laura (Elderbrook) Leach. Aggie attended school in Elkhorn and was a graduate of Elkhorn High School, class of 1947. She then attended and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and embarked on a long career as a registered nurse. On Oct. 10, 1953, she married Thomas C. "Cal" McCarthy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Elkhorn. He preceded her in death March 27, 1997. After their marriage, she and Cal moved to Elk Grove Village, Ill., and lived there until 1964 when they returned to Janesville. Aggie was then employed at Mercy Hospital, where she served as the assistant director of nursing until her retirement in 1992. She then worked part-time as a medical department nurse at General Motors. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was active at St. Mary's School when her children were students there. She was a member of the Janesville Catholic Women's Club, the Mercy Hospital Alumni Association, and was an active member of the Elks Ladies. Aggie will be remembered by all as a person who always was concerned for the welfare of others, and always enjoyed good times with her family and friends! She is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Mark) Boyle of Brookfield; her two sons, Kevin (Jane) McCarthy of Madison, and Dennis McCarthy of Cambridge; her brother, John "Jack" (Janette) Leach of Elkhorn; her seven beloved grandchildren, Bridget, Katherine and Dennis Boyle, Michaela McCarthy, and Ryan, Joan and Philip McCarthy; and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lowell. Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 313 E. Wall St., Janesville, with Father Steve Umhoefer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
