Alice Mary (McGann) McCarthy, 66 years of age, passed away at her home in Braintree Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born in Boston and was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain. She went on to graduate from secretarial school. She worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a secretary and a comptroller in the purchasing department. In 1982, Alice retired from the state to stay home and raise her family. Alice was extremely devoted to her children and her grandchildren whom she enjoyed spending most of her time with. Alice also enjoyed the beach, swimming, and skiing. She was also a phenomenal cook for her family. She has been a Braintree resident since 1974. Alice is survived by her devoted husband, Paul Francis McCarthy. She was the loving mother of Paul E. McCarthy and his fiancee Natasha Anaya of Weymouth, Cynthia McCarthy of Braintree, Sandra Lewis married to Joseph of Weymouth, and Christine McCarthy and her fiance Daniel LeClerc of Braintree. Alice is also survived by her six adored grandchildren, Makayla, Alana, Jacob, Owen, Brianna, and Ella. She was also the sister of the late Maureen Meade, "may you rest in peace with your best friend." Visiting hours for Alice will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m. to be followed by funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., South Braintree Square, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.
