First Lieutenant McCarthy was the co-pilot of
KC-135 Stratotanker #58-0048.
Killed in the line of duty when the aerial
refueling tanker lost airspeed and crashed
on landing at Carswell Air Force Base,
Fort Worth, Texas.

All five airmen aboard perished when the jet's
wingtip struck the runway and caused a
cartwheel of the aircraft, resulting in a crash
and explosion.

Son of Francis E. and Margaret (Serra) McCarthy.


The other four service members were:

A1C Bruce J Klaverkamp
