His father, James McCann and his mother, were living in Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois when William died.
He came to Washington about 1891 and did carpenter work in and about Davenport, Lincoln County, WA. About 1901 he took up at a homestead at Bluestem, Lincoln County, WA.
He married Alice Harding 6 January 1898 Davenport, Lincoln County, WA.
They had a farm about 7 miles north of Harrington, Lincoln County, WA.
From his obituary: "He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a kind neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him."
He had been not been feeling well for about 8 weeks when a blood clot on his brain caused his immediate death.
He passed away on his farm and his funeral was held at the Harrington Evangelical Church.
