My grandmother, Sarah Jane (Morrow) McCammon, is buried in the Sinton Cemetery in Sinton, (San Patricio, Co.) Texas. She is buried beside my grandfather, Miram McCammon. He was also from Jewell Co, KS. His parents were John and Nancy McCammon. My father Victor Josiah McCammon was born in Otego, KS in 1897. Miram and Sarah left Jewell Co by train on Christmas Day 1908 and arrived in Sinton on New Year's Day 1909. (This is according to my Aunt Wilma Whitehead who made the trip.)
Thank you so much,
Cathy McCammon Hord

Sarah Jane Morrow was born to Josiah Morrow and Cynthia Ann (James) Morrow in Otego, Jewell County, Kansas. She married Miram Hugh McCammon on September 12, 1893 - the same date as her parents, but twenty-one years later. Eight of Sarah and Miram's nine children were born in Otego and their last child was born in Sinton. Two of their children died as infants.

Sarah, Miram and their six children moved from Kansas to Sinton, Texas in late 1909. Sarah remembered their early days in Sinton in these words: "When we got here, the barn and chicken shed were built, but the house hadn't been started. We lived three months in the hay loft, and I thought we would freeze to death. We brought two mules, two horses, 200 chickens and our household goods with us on the train. At that time, there was only one brick store in Sinton, and the owner wouldn't buy my eggs. When the town people found out I had eggs, they came to me to buy some. We didn't have any milk either. If you wanted to make flour gravy, you had to use water."

Sarah was a long-time member of the First Methodist Church of Sinton. She grew all kinds of flowers in her half-acre backyard for many years and each week - summer or winter - she donated a flower arrangement to her church. Sarah assisted the Red Cross during World War II by knitting sweaters for children overseas for the relief campaign. Her house was full of knickknacks and collectibles. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles. Sarah gave a gift to every member of her family at Christmas - one year there were 176 wrapped gifts.

Sarah fell and broke her hip at the age of 92 and subsequently died of pneumonia. She is buried in the Sinton Cemetery next to Miram.
