| Birth: | Feb. 12, 1827 Virginia, USA | | Death: | May 5, 1882 Missouri, USA | The following obituary was published in the May 19, 1882 issue of the MILAN REPUBLICAN, a newspaper of Milan, Sullivan County, Missouri.
McCallister: Mrs. Mary J McCallister, a member of the M.E. Church, and a devoted Christian, departed this life at her home in Clay Township, Sullivan County, Missouri, May 5, 1882, aged 55 years, 2 months and 23 days. Sister McCallister was born in Putnam County, Virginia, February 12, 1827; moved to Madison County, Indiana, with her parents, (Mr. and Mrs. Poindexter) in the year 1837, was married to Judge Thomas McCallister, February 18, 1849; removed with her husband to this (Sullivan) county in the spring of 1858. Sister McCallister had what is known as consumption, and was a great sufferer; yet, she bore her sufferings with Christian fortitude. She sought the Lord when quite young, and at the age of 13 years, united with her church, and her example and influence in the family and neighborhood were constantly saying, "This is the way, walk ye in it." She has been looked to by a large circle of friends and relatives for motherly advice and Christian council. She was always connected with the Church. Her children have grown up to call her blessed. A mother in Israel has left us, yet we realize that "Our loss is her gain." She was a devoted student of the Bible and nobly sustained the church in it's various departments. While on Earth she walked with God and he has taken her from suffering and trial to that rest that remaineth to the children of God. J.S.
