Katherine attended Gravel Point Elementary school, graduated from Cabool High School in 1941 and later attended Draughon’s Business College in Springfield, MO.
A bookkeeper at heart, her first job was MFA in Houston, MO. There she met Wade Brown and they dated during his service to the Army and WWII. They married December 21, 1946 and moved to the family farm in Solo, MO. A farmer’s wife first, she later retired from H.D. Lee garment factory. Upon declining health, Wade and Katherine moved back to Houston. She loved town living from the first day and the trips to the coffee shop. She resided in Cabool for the past six years.
Katherine is preceded in death by Wade, after 61 years of marriage, her parents, and sister Lucille. She is survived by sons Terry Brown and wife Karen of Mtn. Grove, MO; Duard Brown and wife Frances of Ozark, MO; daughter, Mary Alice Day and husband Michael of Republic, MO; grandchildren, Lisa, Travis, Ryan, Brent and Joy; eight great-grandchildren, brother, Ronald McCall and wife Barbara of Mtn. Grove, MO; in-laws Dwaine Brown, Wava Brown and Jean Brown and several nieces and nephews.
Katherine was saved and baptized as a young adult. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Solo, MO and attended there until her health declined. She was a faithful servant and always made church an important part of her family’s life.
Nothing fancy, but cooking, of anything, was her gift to many others, from pies, to homemade donuts to Bible School cookies. She loved to visit and you always had to have dessert and coffee before you left her house as she said, “When you coming back?”
