Elizabeth returned to God too soon on Monday, February 1, 2010, surrounded by her husband and children, who loved her greatly.
Elizabeth was born July 26, 1929 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Frank and Catherine McCaffrey.
She grew up with her nine brothers and sisters in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, and later in life moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, where she became a child care provider. She journeyed to the United States in 1958, joining her sister, Eileen, and brother, Peter, in Oakland, California, where she became a bookkeeper.
There she met and married Charles Dooher, settling down in Orinda. She devoted her life to her five children, loving them and her four grandchildren, and was loved greatly in return. She was devastated when her children Jim, Catherine, and Mary suffered untimely and tragic deaths. Her love for children brought her back to child care, where she made a difference in the lives of many. Elizabeth touched everyone with special love and kindness. She will be missed and will live in our hearts forever.
Preceding Elizabeth to God's tender care were her son, Jim, and her daughters, Catherine and Mary; her father and mother, Frank and Catherine; her brothers, Frank, Tom, and Peter; and her sisters, Eileen, Emily, and Jean. She leaves behind her husband of forty-seven years, Charles; sons, Paul, and Brendan, with his wife Svjetlana; and daughter, Elizabeth, with her husband Bryan. She was the proud and loving grandmother of the children of Elizabeth and Bryan - Zachary and Catherine, and the children of Brendan and Svjetlana - Lana and Charles. Elizabeth is also survived by her sisters, Winnie McCaffrey and Phil Greene of Northern Ireland, and Sr. Anne Marie McCaffrey of San Antonio, Texas.
The Holy Rosary and viewing will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010. Both services will be held in St. Monica Catholic Church, 1001 Camino Pablo, Moraga.
She will be laid to her final rest at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.
