MARY ELIZABETH BURGETT
Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Edward and Marguerite McCaffery, was born near Marietta, Ohio, May 13, 1840, and passed away at her home Tuesday evening, February 27, 1923, aged 82 years, nine months and sixteen days, after a few days suffering with pneumonia.
At the age of thirteen years she confessed her soul to Christ, having united with the Christian church in later years, where she still remained a constant member. Unselfishness was the keynote of her character.
In the year of 1860 she was united in marriage to George Walter Lykins, of Missouri, to which union were born two children, Caroline Rosetta, born in 1861 and died in 1863 and George W., now residing in Chariton. In 1863, Mr. Lykins passed to the great beyond while serving in the War of the Rebellion.
She was married to Aaron Burgett July 4, 1876, to which union two children were born, Mrs. V. Fogle of Lacona and Elmer C. of Oakley, both surviving.
She leaves to mourn her death two sons, George W. Lykins and Elmer C. Burgett and one daughter, Mrs. Leta V. Fogle, seven grandchildren, three having preceded her to the great beyond, and one great-granddaughter, Blanche Wilson of Chariton.
All that was mortal was tenderly laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery after the preaching of the funeral in the Oakley M. E. church by Rev. J. D. Pontius, pastor of the Chariton Christian church, there to await the resurrection of the just.
