Edith left to be with the Lord on February 24, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Her loving family was at her side. Edith was born October 15, 1918 to John and Edith (Pierce) McCaffery in Emmet, Nebraska. She married Merwin Arter on September 22, 1936. The family settled in Bakersfield, California in 1958. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her son, Dennis (1984) and her loving husband, Merwin (1985). Edith's children, Larry (Margaret), Judy Carr (Burl), Barbara McMinn (Dolphus), Sandra Dorman (Rod) and Jeff (Kara) carry her memory with them. Edith's grandchildren are Cindy, Mike, Debbie, Marty, Tami, Michelle, Steve, Brad, Jennifer, Jason, Jeffrey, Scott and John, and she was further blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Betty Tracy of Bakersfield. Edith's family will always remember and be grateful for the excellent care she received from both Dr. Shuie and the gentle staff of Hoffmann Hospice, who eased her journey into Heaven. The world is a bit dimmer because she is gone from us.
