Funeral Services Were Conducted Sunday Afternoon From the Leon M. E. Church
Funeral services for Mrs. Joe S. Edwards were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Leon M. E. Church by the Rev. G. H. Cavit, local pastor. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Marshall, Mrs. H. S. Dedrick and L. A. Dilts sang "We Are Going Down the Valley" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Anita Souders who also sang "City Foursquare."

Deborah Lois McCaffree was born July 18, 1882, near Shenandoah, Fremont County, Iowa, and departed this life Thursday, April 2, 1936, at El Dorado, Kansas, at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 15 days.

She came to Butler County, Kansas, with her parents in 1895 and lived on a farm on Hickory Creek, southeast of Leon, from then up until her marriage to Joe S. Edwards at El Dorado, Kansas, February 20, 1900. She spent all her married life in the Leon Community.

To this union were born eight children, three of whom preceded her in death, Alice Marie, Ruby Opal and Sidney James, all having died in infancy.

She is survived besides her husband, by two sons, Charles E., wife and three children, Allen Joe, Jimmy and Doris; Willard J., and wife,, all of Leon; three daughters, Mrs. Lois L. Westervelt, husband and son, Darrel Duane, of Leon; Miss Violet E., of Wichita, and Miss Ada J., at home; also her mother, Mrs. Nancy J. McCaffree, of Leon; four sisters, Mrs. Olive Derick of Seiling, Oklahoma, Mrs. Alice Sutter, of Leon, Mrs. Delia Prescott of Spring Valley, California, and Mrs. Florence Harris of Cheney, Kansas; three brothers, J. E. McCaffree, El Dorado, R. 4. O. H. McCaffree, Neosho, Missouri, A.L. McCaffree of Rex, Oregon, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was converted and joined the church at an early age and throughout her life remained a devout Christian. She was a very devoted wife and mother and made many friends who will long remember her kind and sunny disposition.

Pallbearers included Ray Sipe, N. A. Dedrick, Charles Eckel, Bend Thompson, Harold Holt and John A. Marshall.

The classmates of Ada Edwards with Miss Lillian Dedrick of the high school faculty, attended in a group.

Burial was made in the Leon Cemetery, Byrd Funeral Home was in charge.
