Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock last Saturday afternoon, November 20, at the Wickenburg Chapel, for Robert John McConnell, a resident of Wickenburg since 1943, who passed away the preceding Wednesday afternoon at his home here following a lingering illness.
Dr. Charles S. Poling of the First Presbyterian Church conducted the final rites with burial taking place in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were George Hershkowitz, Larry Fields, Ted Bulger, Bob McNabb, Roy Pemberton and Robert Dunkel of Parker.
Born In Canada
Born in Paisley, Ontario Canada, November 22, 1878, Mr. McConnell moved with his family to Grand Forks, N. D. in 1881. He later returned to Canada and was married June 21, 1916, to Ethel Irene Barncard. With their four children, Mr. & Mrs. McConnell returned to the States in 1926, locating in Mercer, Wis., where he became associated with the Wisconsin Forestry Conservation. He held that position until moving to Wickenburg in 1943.
Worked At CFA
Mr. McConnell was employed at the Claibome Flight Academy west of here until it's closing in 1944. He then worked for several years at the Kay El Bar Ranch until poor health forced him to give up active work. For the past few years his chief interest had been raising flowers at his home.
The Survivors
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Ethel Irene McConnell, three daughters, Mrs. Mitchell Kerkes and Miss Iris McConnell, both of Wickenburg, and Mrs. R. G. Carr of Omaha, Neb., and one son, Ronald Robert McConnell of Fallon, Nev. Two sisters, Mrs. I. C. Johnston of Kenmore, N. D., and Mrs. Mary Britton of Sioux Falls, S. D., and two brothers, Pete and Harvey, both of Leavenworth, Wash., also survive, as do three grandchildren.
