Charles R. 'Butch” McBride, 62, Newburgh, IN, died 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005, in a traffic accident.
Butch was a recent retiree of Alcoa, where he was employed for 31 ½ years, in the engineering and environmental departments. He was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa, and moved to Evansville in 1964, where he graduated from Lain Technical Institute. Butch was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was a longtime member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, where he served his Lord and Savior as president, elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, treasurer of the Men’s Club and on various committees.
He was a member of the American Legion Kapperman Post No. 44 Newburgh, the Newburgh Loyal Order of Moose No. 2439 and the Charles Denby VFW Post No. 2953 in Evansville. Charles was an avid Aces basketball fan and golfer, who played on the Alcoa Golf League. He especially loved traveling to Panama City Beach, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sherry (Wolfington) McBride; three children, Larry McBride and wife, Jennifer, of Bloomington, IN, Julie Henneke and husband, Ken, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Patrick McBride of Evansville; one sister, Patricia Slegianes and husband, Jim, of Macomb, MI; brother-in-law, Chuck Singer and wife, Tami; sister-in-law, Tina Reger and husband, George; and several nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful grandfather to five grandchildren, Connor, Quinn and Keira McBride and Alexis and Erin Henneke.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 3601 Washington Ave., Evansville, Ind. 47714, with Pastor Dan Hendricks officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, August 9, 2005, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville, Ind. 47715, and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church on Wednesday, August 10, 2005.
