Dorothy J. Gerike, 84, of Augusta passed away surrounded by her family, Wed. March 16, 2011 at Tri County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall.
Dorothy June Gerike, daughter of Roscoe and Margaret (Schwartz) McAdam, was born Feb. 25, 1927 in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. She moved to Augusta in 1931, where she graduated from Augusta High School in 1944. She married Donald E. Gerike on April 3, 1949 at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. To this union they adopted three children, Dan in 1955, Deanna in 1958 and David in 1960. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, especially making many quilts for LCMS Worldwide Relief. She also quilted with the Augusta Senior Center Quilt Addicts. In addition to helping on their farm she worked 18 years in a clerical position at Dairy Maid Co-op Creamery in Augusta. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, camping, snowmobiling, swimming, dancing, and traveling with family and friends. Since Oct. of 2007 she had been a resident of Grand View Nursing Home in Blair.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by Don, her husband of 62 wonderful years; three children, Daniel (Nancy) Gerike of Glendive, MT; Deanna (life partner, Steve Hintzman) of Menomonie, David (Tammy) Gerike of Augusta; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Genevieve (Merlin) Moore; and brother, Eugene "Buzz" (Arlene) McAdam all of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, Gerhardt (Beverly) Gerike of Augusta; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
