HAVEN - Bessie I. Geffert Kohler, 92, passed away Dec. 9, 2011, at Haven House, Haven. She was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Udall, Kan., the daughter of Robert and Helen Howard Mayfield.

She was a resident of Haven since 1940. On July 15, 1965, she went to work at Reno County Courthouse for the Reno County Clerk and Assessor Hubert Buckles. She was appointed Deputy County Clerk Dec. 15, 1976, and remained deputy until retirement on Feb. 4, 1987. She married Russell Geffert Feb. 4, 1940 at Haven. He passed away Aug. 4, 1966. She then married Paul C. Kohler Nov. 26, 1970, at Ft. Worth, Texas. He survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Karen Bea Chambers of Ft. Worth, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Anne Geffert of Coweta, Okla.; a granddaughter, Kandy and husband Robert Yates of Cleburne, Texas; a grandson, Price and wife Nancy Chambers of Brackettville, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Yates of Cleburne, Texas; twin great- grandsons, Braden and Blaine Chambers of Brackettville, Texas; twin brother and sister, Jack and wife Donna Mayfield of Seguin, Texas, and Betty Bradfield of Derby; brother, Arthur Mayfield of Mulvane; sister, Ruby Watts of Santa Maria, Calif.; and a nephew, Bob Mayfield of Derby that was raised by Grandma Helen. She was preceded in death by: brothers, Glenn Mayfield and Laurence Mayfield; sisters, Mary (Mamie) Edwards and Margie Owens. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Haven, with Pastor Russell Bonine officiating. Memorials may be sent to either Haven House or St. Paul's Lutheran Church Preschool, in care of Ott Funeral Home, 102 N. Wichita, Haven, KS.
