Ruth Annette Mayfield, 81, of Rogers, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, in a local nursing center. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2015, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, Temple. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Val Verde Baptist Church in Holland, Texas, followed by interment in Val Verde Cemetery.

Ruth was born in Salado, Texas, to the late Lilburn Rufus "Doc" and Leona Ester (Matejowsky) Whiteley. She worked as the secretary to the Editor of the Temple Telegram, then went on to work for MHMR. She enjoyed spending her time scrapbooking and reading.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, David Sherman Mayfield; and a son-in-law, Kenny Waits.

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Mewhinney and her husband, Len, of Salado, Texas, and Margie Waits-Rose and her husband, Vernon, of Rogers; grandchildren: Jason Waits, of Rogers, Stacey Sisneroz and her husband, Drew, and Jeff Waits and his wife, Leslie, all of Rogers, Lauren Smith and her husband, Jimmy, of Waco, and Jacob Mewhinney and wife, Chelsey, of San Antonio; six great-grandchildren; brother, Joe "Sonny" Whiteley and his wife, Wanda, of Temple; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
