Virginia Gibson, 89, of Shawnee, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee.
Visitation will begin 8 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, and continue through service time. Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery with Reverend Harrison Gibson, Lake Church, Manford, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Virginia Gibson, 89, Shawnee, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee.
She was born Aug. 5, 1922, to William F. and Rillie C. (Cook) Mayes in Stratford.
Virginia was raised and attended school in Stratford. At the age of 18 along with her sister, they took a bus to Shawnee where she has lived ever since.
She married Jack Norris Gibson on March 5, 1943, in Shawnee and he preceded her in death Sept. 30, 1972.
Virginia was a homemaker and mother to eight children. She also worked outside the home as a home health care provider.
Virginia enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and working puzzles. She was an excellent cook and loved Sunday dinner with her children.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack N. Gibson; son, Billy Roy Gibson, July 21, 2008; three grandsons, Monty Ray Gibson, Matthew Gibson, and Larry Don Gibson; one granddaughter, Misty Dawn Gibson Plumley; two sisters, Opal Croft and Jewel Mayes; two brothers, Lester Lee Mayes and John Mayes.
Virginia is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Mike Jacobs of Shawnee, Debi and Jimmie Heard of Shawnee, and Jackie and Robert Johnson of Ft. Gibson; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Wesley and Roberta Gibson of Newark, Del., Harrison and Zelma Gibson of Jennings, Les Gibson and David Gibson, both of Shawnee; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Brown and Elizabeth Shorter, both of Shawnee; one special sister-in-law in Christ, Betty Gauss, Madua, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
If you meet God in the morning, he'll go with you through the day. Rest in Peace, Mama.
